Research Interests: My lab focuses on the role of the extended amygdala in processing affective information in rat and non-human primate. Our research techniques range from single-cell RT-PCR, through in vitro patch clamp electrophysiology, to multiunit recording in freely moving animals. In the past we have looked at this process primarily in adults but recently we have started to investigate the developmental trajectory of amygdala physiology with reference to understanding neurodevelopmental disorders of emotion. In particular we are interested in emotional deficits that are associated with autism.
