Biography

Dr. Paul J. Chai is Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery and Co-Chief of the Children’s Heart Center and Professor of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Chai joins Children’s from New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center, where he directed the pediatric heart transplantation service and the mechanical assist device program and was associate program director of the cardiothoracic surgery residency.

Dr. Chai's primary specialties include complex neonatal heart surgery, aortic valve surgery (including the Ross procedure and valve-sparing root replacements in both pediatric and adult patients), pediatric mechanical support systems, and heart transplantation. Dr. Chai often continues to care for his patients as they transition into adulthood.
