American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards

Congratulations to three HeRO 2019 American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship Awardees!

  • Dr. Paul Lee (Buckley Lab) “Optical Measurements of Microvascular Cerebral Blood Flow in Children with Sickle Cell Disease”

Dr. Lee's project will validate Diffuse Correlation Spectroscopy (DCS) measurements of microvascular cerebral blood flow in patients with sickle cell disease, and it will use DCS to characterize cerebrovascular hemodynamics in this unique patient population.

  • Dr. Jinqi Fan (Cho Lab) "TBX18 Driven Self-Organization Clusters of iPMs and Fibrous Tissue Reconstruction"

Dr. Fan's project aims to dissect the potential mechanism of TBX18 driven self-organizing clusters of induced pacemaker myocytes and fibrous tissue reconstruction,  and finally advance our understanding of  sinoatrial node formation and get more insights for achieving bio-pacing.

  • Dr. Nam Kyun Kim (Cho Lab) "Long-term Ventricular Pacing by EMT Inhibition of Tbx18-induced Pacemaker Cells in a Rat Model of Complete AV Block"

Dr. Kim's project aims to create a biological pacemaker that can maintain stable heartbeats. The study is expected to help a myriad of patients suffering from heart rhythm disorders. The research will be a promising treatment method to cope with several surgical procedures especially for young infant with congenital complete atrioventricular block.
