Pilot Project Funding Program for the Integrated Cellular Imaging Core (ICI)

Deadline: March 14, 2013
Application Budget: $2,000

A new Pilot Project Funding initiative has launched for the Emory Integrated Cellular Imaging (ICI) Core. The goal of this call for applications is to support pilot projects that utilize the Nikon N-SIM super-resolution microscope in ICI (http://ici.emory.edu/microscopes/super_resolution/index.html). Super-resolution imaging provides enhanced resolution compared to confocal or widefield imaging, and the technology at ICI is amenable to traditional fluorophores and sample preparation.
The total funding available is $10,000 and is expected to fund up to 5 projects at $2,000 per project. Awarded funds can only be used for super-resolution imaging time and only hourly fees are permitted in the budget, not microscopy supplies or technical personnel effort. Each award will be funded for up to 9 months and after that period all unused funds will be returned to ICI. This award mechanism is open to all Emory University faculty.

To apply, submit a 2 page application (including figures) that describes:

1. The research project proposed using the Nikon N-SIM, including any necessary background information, preliminary data, and methodology. Preliminary microscopy images (widefield or confocal) strongly recommended. References should be included and are not part of the 2-page limit.
2. A timeline for implementing these studies on the Nikon N-SIM and any future plans that will use the imaging data in potential publications and/or extramural grant applications.
3. A brief budget stating and justifying the number of super-resolution imaging hours needed for this project. Rates can be found at http://ici.emory.edu/document/ICI%20Base%20Rates.pdf

Applications should be submitted as a single PDF file to ici@icicore.com. The deadline for submission is midnight on March 14th, 2013. Funding decisions will be made by the ICI Directors and Emory faculty reviewers. Pilot projects will be scored based upon project feasibility and research merit.

Awardees are required to include an ICI core acknowledgement statement on all publications that include data generated from this mechanism and submit a brief progress report at the completion of the funding period.
