Biomedical Engineering Capstone Projects-Begins August 22, 2011

The 200 projects previously completed in BME capstone design have demonstrated that unmet needs and development ideas suggested and mentored by clinical and surgical faculty provide significant learning experiences for students and rewarding experiences for the mentors.

We would welcome a project or multiple projects for Emory and Children’s faculty - physicians or nursing services. The fall semester begins August 22nd and is our largest class for senior BME capstone projects.

The capstone course format has been revised to speed the development process in the first semester and establish an assigned “lab” period for student project work. The second semester will now be an elective course to focus on the most promising projects and for students who have a high interest in continuing development, constructing of functional prototypes and performance evaluations. The analysis and preparation of regulatory reports will continue in the second semester. We hope this new format will provide improved results, which can be used as foundation for future translational research activities and grants.

Attached is information on the capstone project class that has been distributed in the past. The new schedule still closely follows these same project expectations.
