Biography

Dr. Wulkan graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in 1989. He completed his residency in general surgery at the Jackson Memorial Hospital Medical Center/University of Miami in 1994. He lives in Atlanta with his wife and three children.Seeing children’s lives arrested by obesity and working with patients who have turned to bariatric surgeries, like gastric bypass surgery, inspired Dr. Wulkan to play an active part in bringing more support to families and children to find less invasive means of treating obesity. Dr. Wulkan joined Children’s in 1998, introducing advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, and in 2004, he performed the first adolescent bariatric surgery at Children’s—one of the first ever performed at a children’s hospital. Mark Wulkan, M.D., has worked in medicine for more than 22 years. He is currently Surgeon-in-Chief at Children’s and Chief of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program Director at Emory University School of Medicine.
