Synthetic Biology for Engineering Applications (R01) - upcoming deadline
Deadline: October 05, 2017
Amount: Application budgets are not limited but need to reflect the actual needs of the proposed project for up to 5 years
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) will support research in the burgeoning field of synthetic biology. The overarching goals of this FOA are 1) to develop tools and technologies to control and reprogram biological systems, 2) to increase the fundamental understanding of synthetic biology concepts as they relate to human health, 3) to gain fundamental biological knowledge, 4) to apply synthetic biology approaches for the development of biomedical technologies, and 5) to encourage the participation of early stage investigators in synthetic biology.
- An integrative research plan based on collaborations of synthetic biologists with computational scientists, cell biologists, engineers, and/or physician scientists is strongly recommended.
- Early stage investigators in Synthetic Biology are especially encouraged to apply.
- Investigators funded through this FOA are expected to participate in an annual grantees' meeting and share data, which are the foundational efforts of a synthetic biology consortium intended to connect and drive collaboration across grantees.
- Accepting applications that either propose or do not propose clinical trial(s).
