Research
K.M.Venkat Narayan, MD, MSc, MBA is Director of Emory Global Diabetes Research Center, and is the Ruth and O.C. Hubert Chair of Global Health, and professor of epidemiology & medicine Emory University. He is a physician-scientist trained in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, and preventive medicine, and specializes in the epidemiology and prevention of diabetes, obesity, and vascular diseases. Until August 2006, he led the Diabetes Epidemiology and Statistics Branch at CDC, and was Visiting Scientist at NIH from 1992-96. He is an investigator in several large, multi-center, national studies of diabetes (e.g., TRIAD, DPP, ACCORD, and SEARCH). Dr. Narayan collaborates with partners in South Asia and other regions of the world in a number of epidemiological, intervention, and policy studies, and has published over 330 peer-reviewed papers. He is also actively involved in training of junior investigators, and serves on a number of policy committees.
