Research

Christina Gavegnano is a graduate of the Emory University PhD program in Molecular Systems Pharmacology, and the Emory University Translational Medicine ACTSI program. Christina also has a Master's degree in Immunology from the University of Florida. Christina's work focuses on HIV-1 drug discovery, with a focus on immunomodulator based drug discovery targeting viral persistence and reservoirs in primary target cells including macrophages. Christina's thesis work resulted in co discovery of the use of Jak inhibitors to treat HIV infection, along with Dr. Raymond F. Schinazi. Evaluation of these inhibitors for HIV infection is currently underway in a phase 2a, ACTG sponsored multi center study. Christina's efforts continue to focus on drug discovery for antivirals within primary cell compartments, including HIV and other viruses.
