Bringing In The Research Dollars! (BiRD)

The Gerber Foundation Novice Research Award

Deadline: May 15, 2021

Amount: Maximum of $20,000

Purpose

Recognizing that many developing researchers may find it difficult to obtain initial funding to establish their line of investigation, The Gerber Foundation offers a Novice Researcher program. The purpose is to encourage the development of medical research in infant and early childhood health and nutrition by awarding small grants to new researchers. Applications for Novice grants follow the same process as regular grants and are limited to no more than $20,000 in total (inclusive of indirects).

Remarks

  • These awards follow the Foundation's current focus on clinical/translational research in infant and early childhood health and nutrition
  • Emphasis is placed on projects with relatively short clinical applicability
  • Potential applicants may contact the Foundation to discuss suitability of their project prior to submitting a concept paper

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include physicians, PhD candidates, PharmD candidates, and other similar degree candidates:

  • in a residency or fellowship training program or those who are no more than one year post training
  • have not received a K award from the National Institutes of Health
  • have an assigned mentor for the project and a current development plan

There are two grant rounds each year.

  • Concept papers are due May 15 and November 15 of each year.
  • Upon invitation only, full proposals are due February 15 and August 15 of each year.
